Paula's Run Club Featuring Pure Ionic Water

Paula's Run Club With Matt Lovell And Pure Ionic Water

We first met national treasure Paula Radcliffe OBE when we were in Monaco for the annual Yacht Show and we started working with her in 2023. Supplying our water on a few occasions for her amazing charity Families on Track hydrating the run participants, young and old was a pleasure.

We don't have enough good things to say about Paula's current charity work and her history of sporting excellence that's a perfect fit for our Purity. Health. Performance moniker. Knowing Paula has our water at home and in her bottles when running is a great source of pride for us.

We took a chance to sponsor Paula's excellent Run Club podcast and sent along our friend and longtime collaborator Matt Lovell. Matt's an in demand Nutritional Therapist to elite sports and is currently working with Ipswich Town FC who also are a Pure Ionic Water club! He's got a long list of people he's worked with from England Rugby to Manchester City and British Athletics where he met Paula.

What followed was an excellent conversation about our water. It feels like there's a lot to talk about but that's because our water's got a lot of benefits. A uniquely negative ORP, alkaline, antioxidant, electrolytes, magnesium, hydrogen rich, ultra-filtered - they cover all the great points in some detail. The benefits are many.

Key Topics and Advice
  • Everyday Hydration Basics — Hydration isn't just for run days. You lose fluids and electrolytes daily (even in cold weather, heated rooms, travel, or layered clothing). Consistent daily hydration supports recovery, immune function, and training consistency. Matt emphasizes proactive hydration rather than waiting until you're thirsty.
  • Water Quality and Pure Ionic / Hydrogen-Enriched Water — They discuss the benefits of filtered water and hydrogen-enriched options. Matt explains how better water quality (removing impurities, adding beneficial properties) can improve absorption, reduce inflammation, and aid recovery. Pure Ionic Water is positioned as a tasty, balanced electrolyte drink suitable for daily use, including for kids/families.
  • Electrolytes and Sweat Loss — Runners should pay attention to individual sweat rates and electrolyte needs (sodium, potassium, etc.). Matt covers how to replace them effectively without overdoing sugary sports drinks. Tips include using electrolyte supplements/drinks during longer runs and recovery periods.
  • Practical Hydration Strategies for Training:
    • Pre-, during-, and post-run hydration protocols.
    • Testing your needs in training runs (e.g., weigh yourself before/after long runs to gauge fluid loss).
    • Cold vs. hot weather considerations (you still dehydrate in the cold due to breathing and layers).
    • Avoiding common pitfalls like overhydration or ignoring subtle dehydration signs (fatigue, cramps, poor recovery).
  • Nutrition Tie-Ins — The conversation links hydration with fueling: how proper hydration improves nutrient absorption, carb loading effectiveness, and overall energy. Matt gives advice on balancing macros, recovery meals, and avoiding GI issues common in marathon training.
  • Real-World Marathon Context — They reference recent races (e.g., New York Half in cold conditions, Barcelona Marathon debut performances) to illustrate how hydration can make or break performances regardless of temperature. Emphasis on staying consistent amid fluctuating UK weather.

It's interesting to hear from the pro's what transforming your in-home tap water to truly exceptional water can do. The best bit is anyone can take advantage of the benefits, even if not at elite sports level.
